How to reach Khetwadicha Raja

Black-and-yellow taxis and app cabs are easy to find. Tell the driver "Khambata Lane, Khetwadi, Girgaon." During the utsav, expect to be dropped nearby and walk in.

Khetwadi's lanes are narrow and roads are closed to traffic during the utsav. Public transport is strongly advised over a private vehicle.

The immersion procession

Khambata Lane to Girgaon Chowpatty

On Anant Chaturdashi, Bappa's grand procession sets out from Khambata Lane amid dhol-tasha and reaches Girgaon Chowpatty for the immersion.

Stage 1

Khambata Lane — departure

After the ceremonial aarti and farewell, Bappa's idol leaves the mandap on a decorated rath.

Stage 2

Khetwadi main road

The procession moves onto Khetwadi's main road; devotees line up for darshan amid gulal and chanting.

Stage 3

Through Girgaon

Through Girgaon's streets, with dhol-tasha, lezim and bhajan groups, the procession heads toward the beach.

Stage 4

Girgaon Chowpatty — visarjan

At the shore, a final aarti is offered and Bappa is immersed amid cries of "Ganpati Bappa Morya, pudhchya varshi laukar ya."

Timing & safety notes

  • The procession departs on Anant Chaturdashi and can take several hours to reach Chowpatty. Exact timing
  • Crowds are huge — keep children and seniors close and agree on a meeting point.
  • Follow police and volunteer instructions; stick to barricades and designated routes.
  • Carry water, wear comfortable footwear and keep a safe distance from the water at the shore.
